Karin was diagnosed with Covid-19 at the end of 2020. She had never been so ill, she says. Five weeks later, she tried to go back to work. But she lacked the
strength, nothing was the same. She had to take sick leave again and again. The family doctor spoke of Long Covid, and over time
she realized that it had turned into ME/CFS.
In the video interview, Karin tells us what helped her to get well again (Video is in German, please activate subtitle and choose your language):
Helpful things on the road to recovery:
- Taking an antidepressant for the psyche
- Pacing, finding a baseline
- My content on Ich werde gesund!
- Support from an internist
- Psychotherapy “was worth its weight in gold”
- Acceptance of the condition and self-efficacy were the starting point of her recovery
- Facebook group “Long Covid Austria”
- Special gut treatment
- Professor Simon's “30 - 30” approach
- Relaxation techniques
- Inner work, self-care, surrounding yourself with the right people
- Virustatic therapy against cold sores with valaciclovir (tip from Prof. Scheibenbogen) was a “huge step forward”
- Microimmunotherapy against EBV reactivation
- Hormone replacement therapy: “One to two weeks later I had no more PEM, much more energy, much fewer symptoms”. “The hormones and the antiviral were two very big building blocks for my recovery,” says Karin. She is still taking hormones (Note: Hormone replacement therapy during and after the menopause is the subject of much controversy. The risks and benefits must be carefully weighed up)
- Discovering spirituality
Karin's message: “Don't believe everything you think. Surround yourself with good people. Never give up confidence. Your life is in your hands.”
